If you’re new to San Diego you may already know about our world-famous zoo, but have you heard about its next-door neighbor, Balboa Park? This extraordinary park is home to many diverse attractions like museums, theaters, gardens, restaurants, and cultural experiences to enrich any visitor’s experience. Here are a few fan favorites at the park provided by visitors at the Marina Inn San Diego.
The greenhouse features a beautiful lily pond out front with a lattice design on the massive building that allows natural light to filter in. Over 2,100 plants are featured inside, including gorgeous orchids, ferns, palms, and even carnivorous plants. The attraction offers free entry to guests for an incredible learning experience for both children and adults.
Balboa Park Carousal and Railroad
Families will enjoy hopping aboard the park’s miniature train for a fun and unique experience that takes you through four acres of the area as the conductor entertains your group. The carousal is another attraction in the same location as the train and was originally built in 1901. It’s considered an antique and even features a brass ring game for all who jump on.
House of Pacific Relations International Cottages
The House of Pacific Relations International Cottages welcomes guests to explore different cultures from around the world with lessons on history and traditions. Information on 33 countries is offered in each of the cottages that were built in 1935. Every Sunday you can enjoy the sights, sounds, and flavors from each of the featured countries for little to no cost at all.
Timken Museum of Art
This urban cultural park is home to the Timken Museum of Art with four galleries that are available to the public. It’s a world-famous museum that shows off several works by popular artists. Guests can typicallystroll through the museum in a matter of minutes due to its small size, but don’t let that fool you. Art lovers flock to this exhibit every year for tours, gallery talks, and lectures.
Spreckels Organ Pavilion
Perhaps one of the most recognizable outdoor attractions in San Diego, Spreckels Organ Pavilion hosts concerts each week where live organ music is played. The free attraction is hosted each Sunday by a civic organist who impresses guests with the commanding sounds of the extraordinary instrument, which can be heard clearly throughout the park.
